Artist Bio

Edward Knippers holds an MFA from the University of Tennessee, has been a fellow at S. W. Hayter's Atelier 17 in Paris, worked with Zao Wou-ki in painting and with Otto Eglau in printmaking at the International Summer Academy of the Fine Arts in Salzburg, Austria, and has studied the figure at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, and the Grande Chaumiere, Paris.

He has had well over 150 awards and exhibitions of which over half are one-man shows and invitationals, including: The Prize of Salzburg in printmaking from Oskar Kokoschka's School of Vision, Salzburg, Austria; Setting the Stage, a four-person show of environmental ensembles, Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Spiritual Impact, The Paintings of Edward Knippers, The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond; Neo-Expressionism, Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA); Violence and Grace, one-man exhibition, The University of Oklahoma Museum of Art, Norman; The Quick and the Dead, one-man exhibition, Roanoke Museum of Fine Arts, Virginia; The Naked Truth, Biblical Paintings by Edward Knippers, Mill River Gallery, Ellicott City, Maryland; Edward Knippers, Paintings, one-man exhibition, The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, and Spiritual Inquiry, a group invitational, Struve Gallery, Chicago, IL. His work has also been exhibited in Italy, England, Canada and Greece.
